Regarding the myth of the loyal, virtuous Eastern woman:
This is a fairly typical phenomenon, especially when it comes to Ukrainian women. Ukraine, remember, is a gynocracy, where the men are emotionally abused husks, driven around by their Slavic mothers, teachers and on-and-off wives who literally ruin everything.
And there is an inherent contradictory and infernal logic working around the clock in every Ukrainian woman’s head on full display in this exchange.
Premise A) I love Ukraine.
Premise B) Please, God, don’t send me back there.
I personally know scores of middle-aged and young women from Ukraine like our heroine above who have no problem holding both these ideas in their head at the same time.
They publicly make a big deal of publicly signaling just how much they love their country… while they live in the UK, France and America with their new, oblivious Western hubby marks.
Most of them, however, when their guard is down, will viciously condemn their country and their countrymen as backwards, broken and bigoted. The default, popular position in every single Eastern European country is to hate and spit on one’s country. Nationalism or patriotism or even taking an interest in one’s own inheritance will get you laughed out of all polite company.
But rhetoric all depends on context.
When these dames are taking their Italian boyfriend on a date in the “Friendship Between Peoples” Park in Kiev, they’re quite keen on pointing out just how great their country is - culturally superior, historically unique, a shining city on seven hills. Probably because they’re terrified of coming across as backwards bumpkins to culturally superior Westerners. But when New Year’s with the parents or the grandparents comes around, well, that’s when we hear a diametrically opposed position. That’s when we hear about how the country is one giant festering sore and that its all their parents’ generation’s fault and that this year for sure, they’re going to leave it all behind.
When it comes time to send Ukrainian men who they hate and condemn as backwards, stupid, smelly, unfashionable, uninteresting, ugly and so on to fight and get their limbs blown off, well that’s when we get the “Slava Ukraina” nationalist rhetoric.
But when the Ukrainian men start expressing their desire to “nationalize” their own women, well, then that’s when it’s time to remind the boors that Ukrainian women are free and independent and are not obligated to suffer through the horrors of life in Eastern Europe. Como calls and all it takes is to find one Italian sap to sign on the dotted line. The concept of a married Italian, however, is an oxymoron as these ladies soon find out. Italian men, who live in an even more feminized society, have wisely abandoned formal marriage and rarely let themselves get tricked into financial servitude to eastern gold-diggers. The same goes for the French. Ukrainian women often have to go further West to snare themselves a more naive and good-natured American.
This is why, despite what anyone says, whether on Russia or the Western Internet or wherever, I will never agree on labeling Ukraine a nationalist state.
This is because Nationalism, boiled down to its most fundamental premise, is based on keeping the women in line.

From what I've heard, though, Russia is the same way. So we have two pussy whipped groups of men killing each other for... what, exactly?
